HAFF Update: Progress on Housing, with More Work Ahead

National Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Housing Association (NATSIHA) welcomes the announcement of 5,000 additional social homes under an accelerated Round 2 of the Housing Australia Future Fund (HAFF).

This is another positive step in tackling the housing crisis. With $3 billion now unlocked and nearly 19,000 social and affordable homes expected across Rounds 1 and 2, it’s encouraging to see the Federal Government prioritising urgent action on housing. The Housing Australia Future Fund Facility (HAFFF) and the National Housing Accord Facility (NHAF) aim to deliver 30,000 new social and affordable homes over five years. These initiatives show real effort to address Australia’s housing needs, and the scale of the commitment is a welcome development. At NATSIHA, we are continuing to advocate for: • A dedicated Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander funding stream under HAFF to ensure equitable access for our communities. • Stronger partnerships with Aboriginal Community Controlled Organisations (ACCOs) to deliver culturally safe and community-led housing solutions. The steps being taken are significant, but ensuring these programs deliver for everyone remains vital. NATSIHA is committed to working with governments and the housing sector to create housing outcomes that meet the needs of all Australians, including our communities.
